Sending your photos

Reference photos are one of the most important things when booking your pet portrait.  A good quality reference photo is required. The clearer the photo, the more detail I can see to put into your portrait.

However, if your pet is sadly no longer with us, I will strive to do my utmost with the photos that you do have. Do not worry, this is not uncommon and something I have dealt with many times.

Poor
quality photos may lead to less detailed artwork that may not truly represent your pet

Top Tips in preparing your photos

Be natural :  do not use filters as they can alter colours.
Stay in focus : make sure the photo is still clear when enlarged so I can see the details that make your pet unique, especially the eyes and nose.
Get close : try to get close to your pet rather than using the zoom function.
Keep level :  try to get down to the same level as your pet. Photos taken looking down on your pet do not generally make good portraits.
See the light :   natural light is best to achieve good colour likeness but try to avoid bright sunlight as that can create dark shadows or artificial light which can distort colours.

Don't worry, photos on your phone are perfectly fine but, please remember, I can only draw what I can see in your photo. Please ensure the photo is clear and not pixelated when enlarged.

Pricing your portrait

I tend to price per animal which reflects the hours taken to complete the portrait. My art is drawn in oil-based lightfast coloured pencils which are a notoriously slow medium to work in.

I use only high quality, archival papers and acid free mounts so you can be sure your portrait will stand the test of time. Typically a standard A4 sized, single subject, head portrait inclusive of mount and UK postage is £75. Prices for smaller portraits start at £50.
For larger pieces or more than one subject there will be additional costs.

I like to keep backgrounds simple so as not to distract from the subject. However, if you would like a background we can discuss possibilities and cost. Portraits are supplied in mounts, unframed to keep postage costs down, and allow you to choose a frame to suit your decor. Please contact me to discuss your requirements.

Bookings are secured by payment of a non-refundable deposit of £25. The balance to be paid upon completion - no artwork will be posted until full payment has been received.
If I do not receive the balance payment for a portrait I reserve the right to sell the artwork to another party.

Postage is included in the price and will be on a tracked, signed for basis to ensure your artwork arrives safely.

I retain the copyright to all the artwork I create and completed artwork may be displayed on my website and social media unless you request otherwise.
